Learn More →Try This First: Common Fixes
Before you call, try these simple steps. They fix about 50% of common IT issues!
Internet / NBN Not Working?
- Power Cycle: Turn off your NBN box and modem/router at the wall power point.
- Wait: Leave them off for at least 60 seconds.
- Restart: Turn them back on and wait 5 minutes for all lights to stabilise.
- Check Cables: Ensure the cable from the wall to your modem is clicked in securely.
Printer Offline or Not Printing?
- Check Basics: Ensure the printer has paper, ink/toner, and no error lights flashing.
- Check Connections: Ensure USB or Ethernet cables are securely plugged in. For Wi-Fi printers, check if the wireless light is solid.
- Restart Everything: Turn off both your printer and your computer. Turn the printer on first, wait for it to settle, then turn on your computer.
Computer Running Slow?
- Full Restart: Don't just close the lid or press the power button (which often just sleeps). Go to Start > Power > Restart. This clears out temporary memory glitches.
- Check Updates: Run Windows Update or macOS Software Update. Pending updates often slow systems down.
- Close Tabs: If your browser has 50+ tabs open, close the ones you don't need. Each tab uses memory!
Email Not Sending or Receiving?
- Check Internet: Can you browse websites? If not, fix your internet connection first.
- Webmail Test: Log in to your email provider's website (e.g., Gmail, Outlook.com). If it works there, the issue is with your app/program.
- Re-enter Password: Sometimes updates clear saved passwords. Go to settings and re-enter it.
- Restart App: Close Outlook/Mail completely and reopen it.
Screen Frozen or Unresponsive?
- Wait: Sometimes the computer is just thinking. Give it 60 seconds.
- Task Manager: Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete (Windows) or Command + Option + Esc (Mac) to force quit stuck apps.
- Force Restart: If nothing works, hold the power button down for 10 seconds until the screen goes black, then turn it back on.
Audio Not Working / No Sound?
- Check Mute: Ensure the speaker icon in the taskbar isn't muted or turned down.
- Check Output: Click the speaker icon and ensure the correct device (e.g., "Speakers" vs "Headphones") is selected.
- Physical Check: If using external speakers, check they are plugged in and powered on.
- Restart Audio: Sometimes a simple restart fixes the audio driver.
